김대진, 지휘자

2008년부터 2017년까지 수원시립교향악단 제6대 상임지휘자를 역임한 김대진은 '건반위의 진화론자'라는 음악계의 평가처럼 최정상의 피아니스트에서 지휘자로 다시 한 번 진화한 모습을 보여주고 있다. 2002년 한국음악협회에서 기악부문 한국음악상을 수상한 그는 ‘주간동아’가 선정한 정치, 경제, 사회, 문화 등 분야별 40대 리더 40인 중 유일하게 음악인으로서 선정되었고, 2003년과 2005년 ‘동아일보사’에서 실시한 설문조사에서 ‘프로들이 뽑은 우리 분야 최고’ 설문에서 ‘국내 최고의 연주가’로 연속 선정 되었다. 또한 2005년 문화관광부 올해의 예술상 음악부분, 예총예술문화상 음악부분에서 대상을 차지하였으며, 2005년과 2007년 2회에 걸쳐 금호음악 스승상을 수상하였다. 한국에서는 오정주 교수를, 줄리어드에서는 마틴 캐닌 교수를 사사한 그는 1994년부터 한국예술종합학교 교수로 재직하면서 손열음, 김선욱 등 우수한 제자들을 배출한 헌신적인 교육자로서 많은 이들에게 귀감이 되고 있다. 

   실내악에도 남다른 열정을 보이고 있는 그는 2007년 금호아트홀 챔버뮤직소사이어티를 창단하여 2016년까지 음악감독으로서 실내악 발전에 앞장섰다. 또한 퀸엘리자베스 콩쿠르 심사위원을 비롯하여 루빈스타인, 클리브랜드, 클라라 하스킬, 파다레프스키, 라흐마니노프, 하마마츠, 베토벤, 부조니, 지나 박하우어, 리즈 국제콩쿠르 등 세계 주요 음악 콩쿠르의 심사위원으로 위촉되어, 한국을 대표하는 세계 음악계의 주류로 활약하며 대한민국 음악계의 위상을 높이고 있다. 

   2004년 예술의전당 청소년음악회 <김대진의 음악교실>을 통해 피아니스트 겸 지휘자로 활동 영역을 넓힌 그는, 2005년 수원시립교향악단 정기연주회를 통해 지휘자로 정식 데뷔하였고, 곧바로 수원시립교향악단 상임지휘자에 발탁되어 2009년 <뉴욕 카네기홀 연주회>, 2010년 예술의전당 <Great 3B Series의 “베토벤 2010”>를 선보이며 수원시향을 국내 최고의 교향악단으로 격상시켰다. 이러한 도전과 노력은 예술감독 김대진과 수원시립교향악단이 2011년 객석예술인상을 함께 수상하는 영예를 안겨주었다.

   수원시립교향악단 창단 30주년을 맞이하여, 국내 교향악단 중 최초로 전국 9개 도시 순회연주 등 획기적인 기획을 비롯하여 ‘삼성전자와 함께하는 2014 수원시립교향악단 유럽투어’와 ‘2014 이태리 메라노 페스티벌 초청-폐막공연’을 성공적으로 이끌었다.
2015년 6월, 아르헨티나 부에노스아이레스 필하모닉 오케스트라 정기연주회 지휘를 통해 남미 대륙에서도 성공적 데뷔를 마친 김대진은 수원시립교향악단과 함께 2016년 7월 독일 헤렌킴제 페스티벌, 9월 오스트리아 린츠 브루크너 페스티벌, 이탈리아 메라노 페스티벌에 초청받아 공연했으며, 수원시립교향악단의 세계무대 진출에 확실한 발판을 마련하였다고 평가받고 있다.

  DAEJIN KIM is one of the most leading pianists and pedagogues in Korea. He won in 1985 the first prize in the prestigious 6th Robert Casadesus International Piano Competition (presently, the Cleveland Competition). In 1986, Mr. Kim made his New York debut and received an exceptionally favorable review from the critic for the New York Times who wrote that "Daejin Kim demonstrated all the accouterments necessary for a successful solo career.” Since then, he has performed in recital and with orchestra in major cities throughout the  United States, Europe and Asia.

  In 1994, Mr. Kim family moved to Korea and since then he has become a prime example of that rare individual who is able to successfully combine both the demanding careers of a concert artist and the most productive teacher. His master classes have drawn international recognition and at the same time, he has been able to maintain a full schedule of performances such as one-day performance of the complete Beethoven's Piano Concertos and the complete cycle of the Mozart Piano Concertos. His recent discography includes 2 Piano Concertos by Mozart (K.488 & K.453), which he conducted the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra from the keyboard, and 2 Schubert Piano Sonatas (D.664 & 784).

  In recognition of his achievements, he was awarded 'the Professor of the Year' Award by the Music Association of Korea and recently, he received ‘the Artist of the Year’ decoration by the Ministry of Culture in Korea, as well as the Grand Prize by the Daewon Cultural Foundation in 2017. He was also two-time recipient of the Professor Award by Kumho Music Foundation, an honor given to the professor who made the most outstanding pedagogical achievements.
  
Mr. Kim has been on the jury member for the prestigious competitions such as the Busoni, the Gina Bachauer, Clara Haskil, the Beethoven (Vienna and Bonn), the Cleveland, the Takamatsu, the Hamamatsu, the Takamatsu, the Leeds, the Queen Elizabeth and the Rubinstein International Competitions.

  After a series of close collaboration as a soloist and a conductor for many years with the Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the prestigious orchestras in Korea, he was the Music Director from 2008 to 2017 During those years, Mr. Kim and the Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra made successful debut concerts at the Carnegie Hall and the Musikverein (Goldener Saal) and the Merano Festival, the Herrenchiemsee Festival and the Bruckner Festival in Linz, and featured the complete cycle of Tchaikovsky and Sibelius Symphony which have been released on the Sony Classical Label. He also appeared frequently as a Guest Conductor for the Jańaček Philharmonic, Slovak Philharmonic, the Buenos Aries Philharmonic Orchestra and many others.

  Daejin Kim received a Bachelor's, a Master's, and a Doctoral degree from the Juilliard School where he studied with Martin Canin. He has been the Director of the Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts and currently is the Professor of Piano at the Korean National University of Arts.
